Following the success of the first and second INERME conferences at the University of Agder, Norway (2024) and the University of Leeds, UK (2025), INERME is delighted to announce its third conference, which will take place on 4–5 March 2027 at Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech) in Tallinn, Estonia.
The conference will bring together researchers, educators, and practitioners interested in the teaching and learning of mathematics within economics education. Continuing INERME’s interdisciplinary ethos, the conference will provide opportunities to share research, exchange teaching practices, and strengthen international collaboration across disciplinary and institutional boundaries.

INERME 2027 is hosted in partnership with Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech). Based in the heart of Tallinn, TalTech is one of Estonia’s foremost universities, with a strong tradition of research, innovation, and international collaboration. Conference Format
The conference will run over approximately one and a half days, beginning on the afternoon of Thursday 4 March and continuing throughout Friday 5 March 2027.

Conference Themes/Contributions
The conference welcomes contributions related to the teaching and learning of mathematics within economics education. We encourage submissions on any relevant topic; the themes below are intended to spark ideas and illustrate the breadth of the field, rather than to limit the scope of contributions.
1. Technology and AI in Mathematics for Economics – AI in teaching and learning, student engagement with AI tools, AI-supported assessment and feedback, curriculum design in the age of AI.
2. Giving Meaning to Mathematics in Economics – The discourse of mathematics within economics education, economics students’ meaning-making of mathematics, connecting mathematical content to economic contexts and applications.
3. Teaching Mathematics for Economics in Large Cohorts – Scalable teaching approaches, fostering engagement and active learning in large lectures, inclusive teaching practices, digital and blended learning.
4. Curriculum Innovation and Assessment – Mathematical process competencies in economics contexts, innovative and alternative assessment methods, competency-based assessment, curriculum renewal and design.
5. Applied and Collaborative Learning – Project-based and problem-based learning, real-world data and problems in teaching, collaboration between economics and mathematics educators.

Submission Information
Contributors will be invited to submit an abstract of approximately 500 words (maximum two pages).

Keynote
INERME is pleased to announce that Steven Proud (University of Bristol) has been confirmed as the keynote speaker for the conference.

Publication Opportunity
A special issue of Teaching Mathematics and its Applications on the theme of Mathematics for Economics is planned for publication in 2028.
The special issue will welcome submissions covering any aspect of mathematics education for economics students in post-16 education and is open both to conference participants and to the wider community.
The issue will include:
- Empirical and theoretical research studies
- Literature reviews
- Scholarly and practice-focused contributions on innovative teaching approaches and curriculum development
Details for how to submit articles for consideration for inclusion in the special issue will be made available in due course.
Full article submissions will be due by 31 July 2027.

Getting to the Campus
The conference will take place at Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech).
All three recommended hotels above are located in central Tallinn, approximately 7.5–8 km from the TalTech campus. The journey by public transport takes around 25–30 minutes and is straightforward using Tallinn’s tram and bus network.
Tallinn operates a free public transport system for registered city residents; however, visitors will need to purchase a travel card or ticket. Further information on fares and routes is available at tallinn.ee.
Taxis are also readily available in the city centre.
